Privacy Policy
Effective Date: [Insert date before publishing] Last Updated: 2026-04-19 ⚠️ Draft — must be reviewed by a lawyer before publishing publicly.
This Privacy Policy explains how Newseeze, Inc. ("Newseeze," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Newseeze Chrome extension, web dashboard, and related services (the "Service").
If you do not agree with this Policy, do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information: your email address and, if provided, your name, managed on our behalf by Clerk, Inc.
- Payment information: processed by Stripe, Inc. Newseeze never sees or stores your full credit card number. We receive confirmation of successful payments (amount, currency, timestamp, last 4 digits of card) to record wallet top-ups.
- Support communications: email you send us and our responses.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Reading activity: which articles you unlock, from which publisher, at what price, and when. We use this to keep your wallet accurate and to show your reading history.
- Wallet activity: top-up amounts, deductions, balance.
- Technical data: browser type and version, extension version, coarse geographic region (from IP), and error logs necessary to operate and debug the Service.
- Publisher request data: if you request support for a publisher that is not yet a Newseeze partner, we log the domain and a hash-derived identifier so we can track aggregate demand.
1.3 Information we do NOT collect
- We do not track your general web browsing. The Chrome extension only activates on pages where a known paywall is detected, and only reads the minimum page data needed to (a) identify the publisher and (b) render our overlay.
- We do not read or transmit the contents of articles you view, other than the URL and publisher identity needed to process a purchase.
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- We do not use invasive tracking technologies such as cross-site advertising cookies or fingerprinting.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Provide the Service (authenticate your account, manage your wallet, unlock articles)
- Process payments and remit publisher royalties
- Send service-related emails (receipts, low-balance warnings, security notices)
- Operate, maintain, debug, and improve the Service
- Enforce our Terms of Service and detect fraud or abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
- Aggregate reading demand for product planning (e.g., which publishers to partner with next) — always in anonymized, aggregated form
We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not sell or "share" your personal information as those terms are defined under California or similar state privacy laws.
3. How We Share Information
We share information only in the following ways:
| Recipient | What we share | Why | |---|---|---| | Clerk, Inc. | Email, authentication metadata | User account management | | Stripe, Inc. | Payment amount, currency, user identifier | Payment processing | | Neon (database) | All account and purchase records | Service operation | | Railway (hosting) | Server logs, request metadata | Service operation | | Publishers | Aggregate purchase counts and revenue totals; per-purchase notification for payout | Royalty payments and reporting | | Resend (email) | Your email address and the email content we send you | Transactional email delivery | | Law enforcement / legal process | As required by valid legal process | Compliance | | Successor to Newseeze | All account and purchase records | If Newseeze merges or sells substantially all assets, with notice to you |
Publishers receive aggregate readership and revenue data but not individual-user reading lists, except as reasonably needed for revenue-share disputes.
4. Data Retention
- Active accounts: retained while your account is open.
- Closed accounts: financial records retained for 7 years to comply with tax and audit obligations. Other personal data is deleted or anonymized within 90 days of account closure, except where legal process requires longer retention.
- Publisher request logs: aggregated demand metrics retained indefinitely; individual request records anonymized within 180 days.
- Server logs: 30 days.
5. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest for databases and backups, signed webhooks, rate limiting, and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach occurs that affects you, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct — update inaccurate information
- Delete — ask us to delete your personal information, subject to our legal retention obligations
- Object / Restrict — object to certain uses or ask us to restrict processing
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent
- Non-discrimination — we will not deny service or charge different prices because you exercise these rights
To exercise these rights, email [privacy@newseeze.com] from the address associated with your account. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (typically 30–45 days).
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
In addition to the rights above, you may request information about the categories of personal information we have collected, disclosed, or "sold" (we do not sell) in the past 12 months. You may designate an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf.
EU/UK Residents (GDPR/UK GDPR)
Our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (to deliver the Service), legitimate interest (to secure, improve, and operate the Service), compliance with legal obligations, and consent (where specifically requested). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. International Transfers
Newseeze is based in the United States and our vendors (Clerk, Stripe, Neon, Railway) operate primarily in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for such transfers.
9. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Chrome extension uses Chrome's built-in extension storage (chrome.storage.local) to hold your session token and small amounts of UI state. It does not set browser cookies for tracking.
The Newseeze dashboard (when launched) may set first-party session cookies strictly necessary for login. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If the changes are material we will notify you by email or in-product notice before they take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
